Josephine Igoche the reigning Miss Ambassador for peace North central
empowers over 500 youths in sporting activities and also awarded
scholarships to two of the best students from a quiz competition
organized by her at the Gboko Memorial school Akpegada Otukpo Benue
state.
The
Miss Ambassador for Peace North Central, Queen Josephine Igoche, has
advised youths to partake in activities that would boost peaceful
coexistence and advance socio-economic values of the society.
Igoche
made this known on Saturday in Otukpo local government council of Benue
at the David Marks' Golf Tournament organized by her which also
featured a peace talk and a quiz competition at Gboko Memorial School.
The
beauty Queen explained that she intended to use pageantry as a platform
to encourage sports and educate the younger generation on the need for
peaceful coexistence in a bid to minimize conflict and criminality in
the society.
"
Apart from trade, sports helps to keep youths off the streets; the
intention is to make them understand that the value of physical fitness
as well broadening the scope of their friendships."
She said a lot could be achieved through sports as a medium for social and economic transformation.
The peace envoy advised parents to monitor their children's company to save them from bad friends.
"If
more of sporting, peace talks and entrepreneur skills are encouraged
and sponsored,we won't have idle hands involved in crime and violence,"
she added.
She also called for sponsorship of youth sporting activities by corporate organizations to enhance their talents.
Some
of the dignitaries at the event included the former Minister of
Interior, Mr Abba Moro, Mr Latty Adoga, the Controller of passport in
Edo State and the Ochi Idoma,Elias Obekpa.
The
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that after the peace talk and golf
tournament various prizes such as Mobile phones, Lamps, Kettles,
Pressing Irons, copies of the Holy Bible, glass jugs, glass cups, bags
and Queen Josephine Igoche writing materials were presented to winners.
