Update on Maternal Ward Support Project: 5 hospitals revamped in Kaduna State by MTN Foundation

The renovation of maternal wards in five hospitals in Kaduna State by the MTNF Foundation (MTNF) has been completed. This was done in conjunction with Kaduna State Government and JNCI, the project partner. 

This development is in fulfillment of the announcement made earlier in the year to renovate maternal wards in select hospitals, in six states across the country, under the MTNF, Maternal Ward Support Project.  The other beneficiary states are; Abia, Cross River, Niger, Oyo and Sokoto States. A total of 24 maternal centers will be renovated in the six states.


The Maternal Ward Support Project is aimed at complimenting Government’s national objective of reducing maternal and infant mortality in Nigeria.

The five beneficiary hospitals in Kaduna are; Jubrin Mai Gwari Hospital, Hospital; Yusuf Dan Tsofo Hospital, Kaduna; Hajia Gambo Sabawa Hospital Zaria; Dabo Lere Memorial Hospital, Saminaka and General Hospital Kafanchan.


While work has been completed in Oyo State, renovation and installation works are ongoing in the other beneficiary states.


Upon completion of renovation, each maternal ward would be equipped with:
• 20 hospital beds with cardiac rest
• 20 standard hospital mattresses
• 20 standard hospital bed pillows
• 10 four-way foldable ward screens
• 20 metal bedside cupboards
• 20 visitors’ chairs
• 10 drip stands
• 20 hydraulic over-bed tables
• 10 height adjustable baby cots
• 2 Carl Novel baby incubators
