Ekiti Speaker urges LGAs to mobilise residents for environmental sanitation

Ekiti Speaker urges LGAs to mobilise residents for environmental sanitation

The Speaker, Ekiti House of Assembly, Mr. Kola Oluwawole, on Saturday urged Local Government Areas in the state to mobilise residents toward cleaning their environments.
The speaker made the call in Omuo-Ekiti, headquarters of the Ekiti-East Local Government Area, while supervising the July edition of sanitation.
Oluwawole called on the local governments to adopt a policy that would compell the markets to be cleaned on every specific day.
He frowned at the lackadaisical attitude of residents of the towns in the local government towards the exercise.
“We started noticing that our people are not complying with this sanitation right from Ado-Ekiti and here, the scenario is worse.
“This is not acceptable. So, I want to implore the local governments to provide mobile courts to sanction those who defy the exercise.

“Particularly, all those vehicles coming in from other states during the exercise should be impounded as it is wrong for people to be moving about like this during the exercise.
“Local government authorities in the state must make provision for mobile courts to try offenders during monthly environmental sanitation,” said Oluwawole.
He advised local government chairmen to always mobilise their health workers for the exercise and provide them with security personnel to ensure effective enforcement.
NAN reports that the State’s Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Mr Tayelolu Otitoju; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Mr. Ojo Fasiku and EKiti East local government chairman, Mr Adekunle Adeniyi were together with the speaker.
