Biafra agitation product of frustration – APGA

The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has said the continued agitation for the actualization of Biafra by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, is the result of frustration over perceived injustices in the country.
Addressing reporters at the NUJ Press Centre, Awka, yesterday, as part of activities lined up to mark his 60th birthday and 30th anniversary of his marriage, national chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Oye, claimed the agitation would definitely cease, once the glaring imbalances and marginalization against the Igbo were addressed.
He said: “The Igbo man does not believe in destruction. They suffered so much during the Nigeria civil war and they have not recovered from effects of that war. They believe in the unity of Nigeria, but the inequitable distribution of amenities, which is not in their favour, is what is driving the agitation. Once they are properly recognized and given a sense of belonging in the country, the whole world will see that Igbo people love Nigeria.
“If they are given good roads, jobs and treated fairly and equitably in the distribution of appointments, there would not be any agitation and this is certain. When the people drive on the dilapidated Onitsha – Enugu road, Oba – Nnewi – Okigwe road, Aba – Port Harcourt road, Owerri – Port Harcourt road, Enugu – Umuahia – Aba road which are all federal roads and watch the way appointments are being made in the country, naturally they should be agitated.”

Oye also spoke on the much-publicized rift between Governor Willie Obiano and his predecessor, Mr. Peter Obi, describing it as a figment of the imagination of some people who did not mean well for Anambra State.
According to him, the two prominent sons of Anambra State had a cordial relationship and called on those he described as “busy body people” to leave them alone in the interest of the state.
He, however, called on former Governor Obi to return to APGA because, according to him, that was where he rightly belonged.
The APGA chairman said “Obiano and Obi are the same. It is the political turncoats that are making the situation look as if there is a rift between them. Obi laid a solid foundation for the development of the state and Obiano has continued to build the structures. As far as we are concerned, there is no rift between the two great sons of this state.”
He observed that the former governor, who had since defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was not where he should be, advising him to return to APGA which he helped to build because that is where he should be, adding that with PDP bleeding and All Progressives Congress, APC, suffocating, the choice of the people remained APGA and urged the people to discard the rumours being peddled on the future of the party.
