Buhari plotting to weaken opposition – PDP

The factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Soji Adagunodo, says the agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war is to suppress the opposition in order to boost the chances of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2019 general election.
Adagunodo said the anti-graft war had been marred by gross impunity, selectivity and highhandedness.
The state factional PDP chairman, in a statement on Monday, stressed that the Buhari government was using the anti-graft war to make the PDP irrelevant.
He said, “It is becoming evident daily that the Buhari administration is using its much-vaunted war against graft as a tool to decimate the camp of those who disagree with him on any issue and ensure that they remain politically irrelevant as another general election draws nearer.
“An objective assessment of the anti-corruption war, so far, shows a lack of sincerity. It shows clear partisanship and apparent vendetta exhibited in the way the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission picks its targets, depending mainly on whether they are in agreement or in opposition to the politics of the President.”

Adagunodo said although many petitions had been written with documentary evidence against two serving ministers of the Buhari administration, the EFCC had ignored calls for their investigation and prosecution.
According to him, if Governor Ayodele Fayose and a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Iyiola Omisore, must be probed, other former governors such as Dr. Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti) and Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) should be investigated.
The statement added,“ We are convinced that what the Buhari administration seeks to do is to stifle dissenting voices and make political opposition weaker in order to have a smooth sail in the 2019 general election. This appears to be the only option for a party that has not and may not make any meaningful difference in the social-economic life of the citizens in the next three years. This is an option Nigerians must collectively reject in the interest of our dear nation.”
