French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve on Monday said 1,550 detentions took place during Euro 2016 and 64 people had been expelled from the country.
He added that 891 people had been taken into police custody, while 59 were handed full prison sentences.
Hailing the unprecedented level of security, Cazeneuve complimented the police and military forces for their work in the context of a “very elevated” terrorist threat.
More than 90,000 security personnel were deployed to ensure that the tournament, which lasted from June 10 to July 10, went smoothly.
Cazeneuve said the Euros had been a success, credit to fruitful cooperation and to the work of security forces.
