PDP will take back govt beginning with Edo, Ondo – Jibrin

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to take back power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019, beginning with the governorship elections coming up in Edo and Ondo states, respectively, the chairman, Board of Trustees of the party, Senator Walid Jibrin, has said.
Sen. Jibrin stated this while briefing journalists following a closed door meeting with lawmakers of PDP extraction in the House of Representatives on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said: “As you can see, the BoT of the PDP as a party has come to the National Assembly to pay a courtesy call our lawmakers and to all consult with them on issues regarding the progress of our party.
“As you know, there had been recent issues in our party that we have resolved and now we are preparing for our national convention which will come up very soon and we have to be in touch with our people here and to also commend their effort at representing the interest of the party in the course of their work.
“But one thing you need to be sure of is that the PDP will capture power back in 2019, and we are going to start by removing the APC government in Edo State, and then we move to Ondo and do the same. These two states are traditional PDP states and we are going to add them to our kitty. That will be the pointer to what’s to come in 2019”, he said.

Asked if his BoT would support the move by the National Assembly to grant immunity to its presiding officers as proposed by one of its own, Hon. Leo Ogor, who’s the House opposition leader, he said when the time is right for discussion, the party would make its stand known.
“Don’t forget I’m a one-time senator, so, we will know what this issues ?entail, so when it’s time for that we will deal with it at party level”, he added.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the PDP House caucus, Leo Ogor, to journalists that the meeting with members of the BoT was aimed at discussing strategic issues bordering on the party’s unity and how they can move it forward.
Ogor frowned at the assertion that there’s faction is the party when our correspondent asked if the issue with the Modu-Sheriff faction has been resolved as claimed by the Makarfi-led faction, saying that there’s no faction in PDP.
Also asked to comment on the general performance of the APC-led Federal Government, Ogor said he cannot assess a government which lacks economic direction as he had spoken severally on the issue bedeviling the nation’s economy.
