Russia wins first gold in Rio

Russia asserted its first decoration of Rio 2016 as Beslan Mudranov won Olympic gold in the judo men's - 60kg.

Mudranov is one of 271 Russian competitors contending in Brazil, in spite of the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) suggesting a sweeping boycott after a doping embarrassment.

He beat ruling best on the planet Yeldos Smetov, who dispensed with Great Britain's Ashley McKenzie, in the last.

In the interim, Argentina's Paula Pareto added the Olympic crown to her reality title by winning the ladies' - 48kg.

Pareto, 30, beat South Korea's Bokyeong Jeong to claim her country's first award of the Games in neighboring Brazil.

Later on Saturday, three-time European champion Mudranov won his first Olympic award in a tight last against Smetov.

Neither one of the mans scored in the underlying five-minute challenge, with Mudranov in the long run winning only 44 seconds into the brilliant score decider.
