Adamawa govt uncovers ghost workers in health ministry

The ongoing civil servants verification exercise by the Adamawa State Government for sometimes now is yielding fruitful result as a fictitious and fraudulent smuggled list of fake auxiliary staff of the state Hospital Services Management Board was uncovered.
Head of Civil Service, HOS, in the state, Barr. Musa Kaibo, made the disclosure in Yola on Friday expressing the state government’s shock over the detection of thousands of unidentified persons names smuggled into the list of the board staff.
“The genuine auxiliary staffs of the Hospital Service Management Board employed by the previous administration two years ago who are yet to be paid were 836.
“But when the present administration came on board and attempted to capture them for the purpose of payment it now discovered that the number initially approved by the previous administration for the employment was almost doubled.
“Some names were smuggled into the list and this made it necessary for the present administration to set up a committee to go round all health facilities to inspect and ascertain the actual number of the genuine staff,” Kaibo said

Barrister Kaibo said that so far, some of the names smuggled into the list were not even in Nigeria and whenever the committee finished it verifications the genuine auxiliary staff would be paid including their two years salary arrears.
On the staff verification committee set up by the state government to ascertain the genuine staffs of the local government councils , he said that it was aimed to place the worker’s salary on first line charge through the e-payment.
He further stated that the introduction of the e-payment system was also to identify and eliminate ghost workers and to ensure prompt salaries payment as at when due.
He however said that in the course of implementation of the e-payment, issues like omission of salaries of some verified local government staff occurred which necessitated government to set up an appeal committee.
He confirmed that the appeal committee among others would address complaints linked to the e-payment and to be clear within ninety days.
He appeal to the civil servants in the state to remain calm and resolute as the present administration would not leave stone unturned in weeding out ghost workers in the system as well as to facilitate improvement of their welfare packages.
